The Peloponnesian War / A peloponnszoszi hbor /HardcoverUPC: N/AMPN: 9789633796788Brand Name: Osiris KiadOverview / ttekintsThis eight-book work by Thucydides, the greatest figure of Greek historiography, chronicles the course of the Peloponnesian War (431404 BCE) up to 410 BCE. He reconstructed events using his own research and also drew on written sources. Speeches are interwoven into the narrative to illuminate the motives behind political decisions and the actions of participants, reflecting his personal interpretation of the causes of the events. One of the most dramatic and rhetorically sophisticated episodes is the dialogue between the Athenians besieging the small island of Melos and the defiant Melians, offering a timeless summary of the conflicts between great powers and small states, often fatal for the latter, in all of ancient literature.Thukdidsz, a grg trtnetrs legnagyobb alakja, nyolc knyvbl ll mvben a peloponnszoszi hbor (Kr. e. 431404) esemnyeit Kr. e. 410-ig ismerteti.
