The title, meaning “solstice” in German, reflects the works deep connection to seasonal change, cyclical time, and inner reflection, all explored through Wilsons refined and atmospheric musical language.Composed for intermediate-level pianists, Sonnenwende strikes a thoughtful balance between technical accessibility and emotional complexity, making it an ideal choice for recitals, study, and personal repertoire development. The piece invites performers to engage deeply with color, nuance, and pacing, offering opportunities to shape long phrases, explore textural contrasts, and convey a wide expressive rangefrom delicate introspection to quietly radiant moments of light.Wilsons approach to the piano is both lyrical and spacious. In Sonnenwende, he uses subtle harmonic shifts, gently evolving motifs, and carefully placed silences to evoke a sense of timelessness and transformation. The music is often meditative, but never staticgradual developments in rhythm, dynamics, and voicing mirror the natural transitions from shadow to light, echoing the gradual shift of the seasons.Throughout the work, Wilson avoids overt virtuosity, instead emphasizing clarity of line, transparency of texture, and expressive timing.
