Composed in 1982 for the choristers of St Georges Chapel, Windsor, where Marshall was serving as organ scholar, the work reveals his remarkable musicianship and talent for blending the sacred with the contemporary. The Magnificat, with its energetic and uplifting lines, complements the more introspective, contemplative tone of the Nunc Dimittis, creating a balanced and spiritually resonant pair. Marshalls use of jazz-influenced harmonies and expressive dynamics brings a fresh, modern vitality to the familiar liturgical texts, making the work stand out within the canon of Anglican choral music. For choirs seeking a sophisticated yet accessible challenge, this setting offers a rewarding musical experience. It is especially appealing to ensembles eager to explore the intersection of traditional choral writing and modern harmonic language. Those who have performed it often describe it as a refreshing and surprising discovery, full of nuance and charm.Whether presented in a liturgical setting or as part of a concert program, Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis in C is a delightful and enriching addition to any choral repertoire.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis C-drban Wayne Marshall-tl egy kivtelesen dallamos s lenygz feldolgozsa a kt hagyomnyos bibliai kantikumnak, melyeket gazdag jazz harmnik s finoman ritmizlt szerkezet jellemez.
