Likely written early in his career, this sacred work reflects Rameaus deep understanding of counterpoint, affective expression, and liturgical function.Scored for solo voices or choir with organ accompaniment, “Laboravi” sets a text drawn from the Psalms, conveying a sense of spiritual weariness and supplication. Rameaus setting brings out the emotional depth of the text through sensitive text painting, suspension-filled harmonies, and flowing melodic lines. While relatively compact, the work demonstrates the composer’s early mastery of vocal polyphony and expressive nuance.”Laboravi” is especially notable for its ability to balance Baroque ornamentation with a restrained sacred atmosphere, making it suitable for both liturgical use and concert performance. It offers choirs a glimpse into Rameaus less frequently performed sacred music, contrasting with his more widely known operatic and theoretical works.French Translation – Overview Laboravi est un motet compos par Jean-Philippe Rameau, lun des compositeurs les plus marquants de la priode baroque franaise, clbre pour la richesse de son langage harmonique et la finesse de son criture vocale.
