Lasting approximately five minutes, this compact yet emotionally potent anthem draws its inspiration from the reflective and solemn verses of Ecclesiastes, one of the most poetic and enigmatic texts in the Bible. Ads masterfully captures the tension between spiritual questioning and quiet awe, crafting a soundscape of dark beauty and introspection. The organ accompaniment plays a crucial role, not merely supporting the choir but actively shaping the atmosphere, with deep sonorities and subtle dissonances that mirror the pieces contemplative nature. The choral writing is harmonically rich and expressive, demonstrating Ads’ distinctive voice as a composer unafraid to explore shadow and light, stillness and movement.Spanning 16 pages, January Writ is accessible in length but offers substantial depth in its execution. Its expressive demands make it an ideal choice for choirs seeking contemporary repertoire that is both intellectually and emotionally rewarding. The work has become a favorite among choirs wishing to explore modern sacred music that transcends traditional boundaries while remaining deeply rooted in liturgical expression.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)Thomas Ads: January Writ cm mve egy megrendt, elgondolkodtat krusm, mely vegyes karra (SATB) s orgonra rdott.
