This collection stands as a contemporary reimagining of the traditional Polish mazurka, a dance form deeply associated with Frdric Chopin. Yet, rather than merely emulating Chopins style, Ads uses it as a springboard for his own imaginative reinterpretation. These pieces are marked by asymmetrical accents, metric ambiguity, and tonal shifts, all of which evoke the rustic charm and rhythmic vitality of Polish folk music. However, Ads filters these elements through a modern harmonic and structural lens, producing music that feels both rooted in cultural memory and alive with innovation. The contrasts within each mazurkabetween tradition and reinvention, clarity and disorientation, stability and fluxreflect Ads’s deep compositional intellect and emotional nuance. His command of pianistic color, subtle counterpoint, and rhythmic displacement offers pianists a rich terrain for interpretation. With its combination of historic reverence and contemporary voice, Mazurkas is not only a tribute to the genre’s past but also a testament to its ongoing vitality. This collection deserves a place in the repertoire of any serious pianist, offering a compelling dialogue between folk tradition and 21st-century expression.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)Thomas Ads Mazurkk cm zongoramvei lenygz darabok gyjtemnye, amelyet a neves zongoramvsz, Emmanuel Ax szmra komponlt 2009-ben.
