In Bach’s hands, these pieces were designed to show off the performer’s touch and the instrument’s tonal variety.Early Masterpieces:Most of Bachs keyboard toccatas (BWV 910916) were composed in his youth during his time in Weimar. They reflect his fascination with the North German “stylus phantasticus.”From Harpsichord to Piano:While originally written for the harpsichord or clavichord, these works translated beautifully to the modern piano, allowing for a dynamic range and sustain that Bachs contemporary instruments did not possess.Ricordi Pedagogy:Ricordis editions of Bach are noted for their clear layout of voices, making it easier for students to track the complex polyphonic threads characteristic of the Baroque era.PublishersPublished byCasa Ricordi.
