This edition presents the definitive piano solo transcription of three authentic folk melodies Bartk collected in 1907 inGyergytekerpatak, Csk County(present-day Romania). These short pieces beautifully illustrate Bartk’s early arranging style: retaining the rich, often spontaneousornamentationof the originalflute playing, while providing a subtly modern, modal accompaniment. The collection contrasts the free, flexible rhythm of the first tworubatomelodies with the concluding strictgiustorhythm, offering a rich pedagogical and performance experience that delves into the core of Eastern European musical tradition.ttekints (Hungarian Overview)Bartk Bla: Hrom cskmegyei npdal(BB 45b) egy magval ragad korai m, amely Bartk elktelezettsgt bizonytja az autentikus magyar paraszti zene irnt. This direct interaction with a village musician shaped the melodic and rhythmic authenticity of the resulting transcription.A Gift of Music:The original version of this occasional composition was titledFrom Gyergy(BB 45a) and was scored for tilink (peasant flute) and piano. Bartk gifted this original arrangement to his close friend and musical confidante, the celebrated violinistStefi Geyer, demonstrating the pieces’ personal significance to the composer.Pentatonic Core:The third and final melody of the set is particularly notable. Bartks notes mention that beneath itsdiatonic surface, thepentatonic skeleton(five-note scale) can be strongly felt. The pentatonic vocal version of this specific melody was later included in his famousEight Hungarian Folksongsseries (BB 47/5), highlighting its importance in his catalog.[Image of the pentatonic scale]rdekessgek (Hungarian Interesting Facts)A Keletkezs Trtnete:A dallamok forrsa az 50 vesBalogh ron
