He was one of the first to treat the 5-string bass (with the low B string) as a standard orchestral requirement rather than a rarity. The “Italian Grip”:While many methods focus on the German or French bow, Bills exercises are designed to foster the robust, clear articulation characteristic of the Italian school of playing, which he championed throughout his career.Academic Heritage:This specific volume is often the primary text for second-year conservatory students. It bridges the gap between simple scales and the more demanding “Corso Complementare” found later in the series.Pedagogical Precision:Bill was known for his “logical” fingering system, which minimizes unnecessary hand movement, a philosophy clearly visible in the exercises within this volume.PublishersPublished byCasa Ricordi, the world-renowned Italian publisher founded in 1808. Ricordi is famous for maintaining the highest editorial standards, ensuring that Bills original pedagogical intentions and fingerings are preserved with absolute clarity. We value your feedback!
