Due to its immense popularity, he later arranged it for string quartet and for piano. It wasn’t until 1796, after hearing a choral arrangement by Joseph Friebert that he felt could be improved, that Haydn created this definitive oratorio version (Hob. XX:2) featuring lyrics by Baron Gottfried van Swieten.Musical Structure:The work consists of an Introduction, seven slow “Sonatas” (each meditating on one of the seven last phrases of Christ), and concludes with a dramatic “Il Terremoto” (The Earthquake), which depicts the earth shaking upon the death of Jesus.Spiritual Depth:Haydn considered this to be one of his finest works. Writing seven consecutive slow movements without boring the audience was a massive compositional challenge, one that Haydn met with incredible melodic invention and solemn beauty appropriate for Passion Week.rdekessgekAz talakulsok mve:Haydn eredetileg 1786-ban komponlta A ht szt zenekari mknt a spanyolorszgi Cdizban tallhat Oratorio de la Santa Cueva nagypnteki szertartsra.
