This work deeply reflects Harvey’s fascination with Buddhism, capturing themes of stillness and reflection throughout its structure. The title of the piece refers to a state of focused concentration, which is maintained from start to finish through a simple yet profound “breathing” motif. This motif begins in the depths of the orchestra and serves as the core of the piece, evoking a sense of calm and mindfulness. Complementing this, the sounds of gongs, bowls, and bells are introduced, imbuing the music with a ceremonial quality that adds weight and gravitas to the overall listening experience.Spanning 14 minutes, Tranquil Abiding builds to a striking conclusion, marked by the distinctive sound of rattling bamboo clusters within the orchestra, a vivid and unexpected shift that leaves a lasting impression. Harveys ability to blend meditative sounds with the expressive possibilities of the orchestra creates a profound, immersive journey into a world of introspection and serenity.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)Tranquil Abiding egy lenygz kamarazenekari darab Jonathan Harvey tollbl, amely 1999-ben debtlt.
