Bach’s stated aim was to teach students how to play clearly in two parts, achieve a goodcantabile(singing style) in playing, and acquire goodinventiones(musical ideas or themes). The Concept of ‘Invention’:The termInventionitself reflects a deeper meaning rooted in 17th-century rhetoric, where it referred to the art of devising and developing a logical musical thought from a basic idea. Thus, this series is also a fundamental study in the principles ofmusical compositionand counterpoint. The Editor’s Pedigree:Solymos Pter(19272007) was a prominent figure in Hungarian piano performance and teaching, serving as a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. His editorial work ensures that the fingerings and performance notes are grounded in both historical awareness and practical performance experience.Key Role in Education:Though first printed in 1801, these 15pedagogical performance piecesremain indispensable for intermediate piano students worldwide, serving as the essential bridge between simpler keyboard works and Bach’s more complexSinfonias(Three-Part Inventions).rdekessgekEredeti cl s cm:Az invencik eredetileg aKlavierbchlein fr Wilhelm Friedemann Bach(1720) gyjtemnyben jelentek megPreambulumcmmel.
