He was a conductor, opera director, and one of the first Romanian composers of opera, often referred to as the “Romanian Eugene Onegin.” Bretan’s music is deeply rooted in the Austro-German Lied tradition he studied, but it is flavored by his regional heritage and a strong sense of drama. His choice of poetsHeine(Romantic cynicism),Lenau(melancholy Romanticism), andRilke(Modernist spiritualism)demonstrates the composers wide expressive range. This 1989 edition, published in Hungary, is a testament to the shared cultural history of the region and the dedication of Editio Musica Budapest to preserving and promoting the works of Central European masters.rdekessgek (Hungarian)Nicolae Bretan (18871968)rendkvl fontos alakja volt Erdly (a trtnelmi Magyar Kirlysg, majd Romnia rsze) zenei letnek.
