Drawing on the rich legacy of Spanish traditional music, this work reflects Pujols deep scholarly engagement with historical repertoire, as well as his passion for revitalizing early Iberian music for the modern guitar.Originally composed by Francesc Guerau (16491722), a Spanish Baroque composer and vihuelist, the piece has been preserved and reimagined through Pujols sensitive and historically informed arrangement. Guerau was one of the key figures of the Spanish Baroque, and his musicoriginally written for the vihuela (a Renaissance plucked string instrument)is characterized by ornamented melodies, intricate rhythmic structures, and modal harmonies typical of 17th-century Iberian music.Pujols adaptation not only makes this music accessible to contemporary guitarists but also preserves the stylistic elegance and authentic ornamentation of the original compositions. Through careful transcription and tasteful fingering choices, he maintains the essence of Gueraus writing while allowing the modern guitar to shine as a lyrical and rhythmically vibrant instrument.Guerau Villano stands out for its rhythmic vitality, melodic clarity, and expressive phrasing. It invites the performer to explore a wide range of tone colors and articulation, evoking the grace and nobility of Spanish court music while also conveying a sense of folk-inspired immediacy and emotional directness. The piece is both technically engaging and musically rewarding, making it a favorite among classical guitarists and a delight for audiences. This arrangement is emblematic of Pujols broader mission: to bridge past and present, preserve Spanish musical heritage, and enrich the classical guitar repertoire with works of historical depth and artistic refinement.French Translation – Overview Guerau Villano , arrange pour guitare seule par le clbre guitariste, compositeur et musicologue espagnol Emilio Pujol (18861980), est une uvre captivante qui met en valeur llgance sonore et les capacits expressives de la guitare classique.
