Composed in 1927, this work is a brilliant synthesis of authentic folk material and sophisticated classical structure. The piece is based on old dance melodies from the Marosszk district of Transylvania, which Kodly transformed into a rhapsodic, virtuoso concert piece. Moving through a series of varied episodes connected by a recurring, soulful theme, the music captures the fiery spirit, rhythmic complexity, and melancholic beauty of the Szkely people. ThisUniversal Editionscore is the definitive version for pianists looking to master one of Kodlys most popular and technically rewarding solo works.Product FeaturesFormat:Solo Piano ScorePeriod:20th CenturyDifficulty:Advanced (Requires strong rhythmic pulse and technical agility)Weight:0.09 kgPublisher:Universal EditionTheme:Folk-based Rondo formInteresting FactsThe “Hungarian Galnta”:While often compared to hisDances of Galnta, theMarosszki tncokwas actually composed for piano first (1927) and orchestrated later (1930), whereas Galnta was written specifically for orchestra.Ancient Origins:Unlike many folk-inspired works of the time that used “Gypsy style” popular music, Kodly used authentic, centuries-old Transylvanian melodies he collected through scientific field research.Structure:The work follows a unique rondo-like structure where a main, recurring melody acts as a “refrain,” interspersed with increasingly energetic and technically demanding dance variations.Cultural Significance:The Marosszk region is famous for its distinct Szkely heritage, and Kodly considered these melodies to be among the most noble and ancient examples of Hungarian musical culture.PublishersUniversal Edition (Vienna)We value your feedback!
