This collection of 18 “character pieces” for piano is one of the most personal and innovative works of the Romantic era. Published byUniversal Editionas part of the scholarly-criticalWiener Urtext Editionseries, this 72-page volume offers a transparent and authoritative text based directly on original sources (“Nach den Quellen”).The pieces represent the “Dances of the League of David,” a fictional society created by Schumann to fight against the artistic “Philistines” of his day. Throughout the score, the contrasting personalities ofFlorestan(the fiery, impulsive visionary) andEusebius(the dreamy, introspective poet) engage in a musical dialogue that is both technically challenging and emotionally profound. This Wiener Urtext edition helps clarify these historical changes.Ending with a Sigh:The work does not end with a grand finale, but rather with a quiet, introspective piece that Schumann described as “Eusebius thinking about the dance.”rdekessgek (Hungarian)Florestan s Eusebius:Schumann az egyes darabokat F. vagy E. szignval ltta el, jelezve, hogy kt alteregja kzl ppen melyik szlal meg a zenn keresztl.Titkos eljegyzs:Szmos zenei tma titkos zenet leend felesgnek, Clara Wiecknek; a mvet rviddel titkos eljegyzsk utn komponlta.A msodik vltozat:1850-ben Schumann jelentsen tdolgozta a mvet, eltvoltva nhny klncebb zenei trft s prbeszdet.
