Ralph Vaughan Williams: Quintet in D Major (Piano and Winds)Product InformationCatalog Number:0571519830ISMN:9780571519835 / 9780571519835Product Type:Chamber MusicSetting:Mixed EnsembleLength:140 pagesPublisher:Faber MusicOverviewQuintet in D MajorbyRalph Vaughan Williamsis a delightful chamber work composed for piano and winds, consisting of four movements:Allegro moderato,Allegretto Intermezzo,Andantino, andAllegro molto finale. While it may not fully encapsulate the mature style of Vaughan Williams, this quintet stands out as a charming and playful composition in its own right. The piano writing in this piece is particularly notable, dispelling the mythoften perpetuated by the composer himselfthat Vaughan Williams lacked technical skill. The music exhibits a sense of humor reminiscent of an anglicized Brahms, especially evident in the Intermezzo, which showcases light-heartedness. There are even allusions to the slow movement of Brahms’ Fourth Symphony within the Andantino. The total duration of the work is approximately25 minutes, making it an engaging choice for chamber music performances.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)Ralph Vaughan Williams: Quintet in D Major (Zongora s Fvsok)egy elragad kamarazenei m, amelyet zongorra s fvsokra rtak, ngy ttelbl ll:Allegro moderato,Allegretto Intermezzo,AndantinosAllegro molto finale.
