Wagnerrl s Schopenhauerrl / Friedrich NietzscheOverviewWagnerrl s Schopenhauerrlis a compelling collection of two essays by Friedrich Nietzsche, focusing on two towering figures who profoundly influenced his intellectual development: composer Richard Wagner and philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. Published by Holnap Kiad in 2001 as part of theNietzsche sorozat, this Hungarian edition juxtaposes a youthful essay from 1874 (Schopenhauer as Educator) with a late work from 1888 (The Case of Wagner), framing Nietzsches philosophical journey. Both essays highlight Nietzsches evolving relationship with these figures. Schopenhauer was a formative influence, offering Nietzsche intellectual guidance as a “spiritual father,” while Wagner, initially a kindred spirit, became a source of profound disillusionment. Together, these essays encapsulate Nietzsches reflections on art, philosophy, and the cultural values that shaped his life and work.Product FeaturesAuthor:Friedrich NietzschePublisher:Holnap KiadPublication Year:2001Pages:118Language:Hungarian (Magyar)Binding:Hardcover (kemny papr)Dimensions:Width: 13.00 cm, Height: 19.00 cmISBN-10:N/AISBN-13:9789633464533Interesting FactsThe book contains two pivotal essays from Nietzsches career:Schopenhauer as Educator(1874), written as a tribute to Schopenhauers philosophical influence, andThe Case of Wagner(1888), a scathing critique of Wagners cultural and artistic legacy.Schopenhauer was a key figure in Nietzsches early intellectual development, inspiring his philosophy of life, while Wagner played a central role in his early artistic ideals.Nietzsches relationship with both figures evolved significantly over time. While he initially revered both, he later distanced himself from their ideas, critiquing Wagners art as decadent and Schopenhauers philosophy as life-denying.The Case of Wagneris one of Nietzsches most polemical works, filled with sharp wit and biting criticism, reflecting his later philosophical stance.Schopenhauer as Educator, part of Nietzsche’sUntimely Meditations, is a more reflective and appreciative essay, exploring the role of philosophy and art in personal and cultural development. The pairing of these two essays in this collection provides a unique perspective on Nietzsches intellectual evolution, from admiration to critique, and his ongoing struggle with the ideas of his “spiritual fathers.”This edition is part of theNietzsche sorozatby Holnap Kiad, which aims to make Nietzsches works accessible to Hungarian readers.PublishersPublisher:Holnap KiadWe value your feedback!
