This youthful work still bears the melodic and harmonic influences of Brahms and was a resounding success at his early concerts. In 1921, when the Waldbauer Quartet proposed to repeat a program from a decade earlier that included the quintet, Bartk initially objected to the performance of this early work. Eventually, he agreed to perform it himself, playing the piano part. The quintet was met with thunderous applause, in contrast to the other pieces on the program, which were composed later. According to Mrta Ziegler, Bartk, in a fit of anger, discarded the score, leading many to believe it had been lost for years. However, in 1963, editor Denijs Dille received a package containing the score and parts, once thought to be destroyed. In preparing this edition for practical use, Dille utilized the autograph score and Bartks handwritten parts for the first and second violins, viola, and cello. Due to numerous deletions and significant revisions made by Bartk, the final version differs considerably from the original. This edition presents that revised version, supplemented with minor changes and annotations found in the string parts.Hungarian:Bartk Bla a pozsonyi gimnziumi vei alatt komponlta a kt hegedre, brcsra, violoncello-ra s zongorra rt kvintettjt, amely mg ma is hordozza Brahms meldiai s harmniavilgnak hatst, s fiatalkori koncertjein mindig nagy sikert aratott. 1921-ben, amikor a Waldbauer-kvartett egy tz vvel korbbi koncertprogramjt kvnta megismtelni, amelyen a kvintett is szerepelt, Bartk eredetileg nem rlt annak, hogy ez a korai mvt ismt eladjk.
