In the originalSonatina, Bartk arranged Romanian instrumental musicprimarily bagpipe tunes. The work unfolds over three movementsBagpipers,Bear Dance, andFinalecomprising five distinct melodies. Bartk explained that in the first movement, each of the two melodies was played by a pair of pipers; in the second, a peasant violinist used the lower strings to mimic the growl of a bear; and in theFinale, two violinists rendered the dual melodies. In this orchestral version, Bartk endeavored to recreate the original sonority he heard from the peasants, prominently featuring not only the strings but also woodwinds, especially clarinets.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)AzErdlyi tncokaz 1915-ben komponltSzonatinazenekari vltozata, melyet kispartitrban adtak ki, megrizve az eredeti npi hangzsokat.
