Commissioned for the spacious and resonant acoustic of Kings College Chapel, Cambridge, the piece sets a passage from Hymn 32: The Nativity of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by the 18th-century poet Christopher Smart.Despite its brief duration, the composition delivers a poignant and luminous setting of the text, balancing textual clarity with emotional depth. Woolrichs writing is subtle yet powerful, with gentle harmonic shifts and transparent textures that evoke the quiet wonder of the Nativity. His use of space, silence, and sonority makes the work particularly suited to grand ecclesiastical venues. The work received its premiere at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in 2001, performed by the Choir of Kings College, Cambridge, and has since become a valued part of their repertoire.”Spring in Winter” is part of the Faber New Choral Works series, which introduces choirs to an inspiring range of recent and newly commissioned pieces by leading contemporary composers. The series features music for all levelsfrom lyrical and accessible works to more demanding compositionsmaking it a rich source of fresh repertoire for choirs worldwide.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)John Woolrich: Spring in Winter (Tavasz a tlben) cm mve egy rzkeny s lgies krusdarab, amelyet ngy szlamban (szoprn, alt, tenor, basszus SATB) rt.
